INSIDE NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE BETWEEN
IBEW 640/NECA 4.4.08
Hello Brothers and Sisters. I write this update from Washington, D.C. where I am attending the IBEW Construction and Maintenance Conference. On April 4, 2008 at 3pm, Local 640 and Arizona Chapter, NECA continued our Contract negotiations at the Dale Eastridge Training Center (PEJATC). The meeting lasted over three hours, and all the proposals from each side were gone through. There are several counter-proposals now on the table, along with a few that were declined by the Contractors and by the Local. I’m not going to go through the blow-by-blow details since there is a lot still up in the air. Here is an update on a few things we have already agreed on in principle (pending ratification).
Agreed-To-Date:
*Adopt Category-I Code of Excellence enabling language (agreed to at 1st meeting).
*Agreed to the mileage rate for Employees using their own vehicles to travel from job to job being established from the IRS Standard Rate as of December 31st of the previous year.
*Agreed to language making the one-check payment system for benefits mandatory.
*Agreed to language increasing the amount at which an Employer must post a job with a placard to $100,000, and retained language requiring signage on vehicles. Removed prohibition of Employees operating un-signed vehicles.
*Agreed to language increasing the amount at which a Contractor must report being awarded a job to $500,000, and added language to provide the Union with the estimated number of Employees they will need and the approximate start date of the job.
The next meeting is scheduled for 3pm at the Dale Eastridge Training Center on April 18, 2008. There’s more to come on items that are of great concern to Union Labor and the Contractors. Keep watching this section for updates and pass along this information to your Brothers and Sisters who don’t have access to a computer. If any action will be requested on your part (special meetings, etc…) you’ll hear about it here first.
God Bless,
Dean
